Now that's a rare one - a coffee imbibing tabby. Well contrasted.

A lordly thought - the coffee has to be brought to the Lord of the Castle... I make my own... using a French Press, not a mechanical device. Arabica.

Thanks.  This style is a bit unusual for me.  I rarely take shallow DOF pix.  I just happened to have the dSLR and 50/1.8D AF Nikkor nearby that day.  Normally I keep a little Ricoh GX100 P&S at my desk, along with one or two flashes on optical triggers for supplemental light.  It's amusing when the cats start fussing and wrestling, and all of the photos in this folder were spontaneous - literally, cats feuding at my feet while I'm trying to work, or nap.

Reminds me, I have a French press too but no properly strong coffee to go with it.  I need to pick up some at the store.  Mostly the French press is a bit of kitchen decor that sees use only when I run out of paper filters.  Shameful neglect of a good tool, I know.

Thanks, Vlad.  This was actually the full photo, not cropped - although I did upload a square cropped version to Facebook, where it shows better.  I just happened to have the D2H and 50/1.8D AF Nikkor handy when the kitten stuck her face in my coffee cup.

I was never happy with the look of my Nikon D2H color photos indoors.  The D2H is too sensitive to near IR, which produces odd color casts under most artificial lighting.  I'd tried various monochrome conversions over the years, including Nik Silver Efex Pro and Nikon's own software, but really prefer the look of the monochrome tools in Lightroom 4 and 5.  It's simple and works well.

Thanks, Trisha.  Eartha Kitty is a funny cat - just a minute ago I had to chase her away from licking the icing off a birthday cake.  Her influence has turned our older Siamese cat kittenish again - they romp and play together.  In all these years I'd rarely seen the Siamese cat playing or even acting like a cat.
