From Virginia looking into North Carolina after dark on the Blue RidgeParkway at Piedmont View Overlook near Fancy Gap, Virginia--I had shotperhaps a half hour earlier from just over the border in NorthCarolina, also on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but before the night closedcompletely down, which it had in this shot. Commentswelcome.

My husband bought a very old classic car in 'Fancy Gap' years ago and restored it. On one of our trips down South we drove through Fancy Gap, such a different name for a town. I am pretty sure Jim bought the car from someone a bit further into the mountains. It is so beautiful there. A really pleasant view from here Lannie. An excellent POV for this shot. I hope you have been enjoying your drive, such beautiful country in this area!!

Thanks, Gail.  Yes, through here the Blue Ridge Parkway is quite low and tame (around three thousand feet).  Further west it goes high and gets into some serious wilderness country--or at least provides access to such country.

I came up U.S. 21 (Roaring Gap, NC) and went up the Parkway into Virginia to I-77 (Fancy Gap, VA) to head back down into North Carolina on this short drive last Monday.  I just happened to be going through there when it was getting dark, and so it occurred to me to try to take pictures.  On all previous trips through here, going back to 1968, I have been here during the day.  It is a very different place at night.

This drive came after a short hike in the Stone Mountain State Park of North Carolina.  The entire afternoon and evening did not start until after 3 p.m., and I was home by about 10:30 p.m.
