There are people smiling, laughing, pointing... its good that the oddity of the scene instigates the viewer to look for clues within the composition.

Ruud, this is not an "easy" shot. It's a tragic moment and you managed to capture it in the most succesful way. I believe that what makes this scene so strong is the crowd. Well done!

Wow, this scene is certainly open to interpretation and wild speculation.  A figure sprawled in the middle of a crossing, drunk, heart attack, acting, social experiment?  Whatever, the crowd reactions could be associated with either; avoidance, disgust, and humor are all evident.  However, my favorite is the Dad with his little girl who seems to be saying, "Look, that's what happens when you drink too much!"  But then, that's speculation on my part.

It would be interesting to hear the real story after all the comments are complete...  Excellent street capture... Mike

Hi Ruud,

A good documentary type of image.  A great time for a wide angle lens.

No matter what the story line, there is much curiosity captured by the people surrounding the

man in the street.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

weird scene - this photo "works" because obviously the people connect in so many different ways with the person on the ground and leave a lot of room for ambiguity and uneasiness for the viewer.

Ruud, you capture the people reaction here very well, some care some others don't care and that is how life is. Very good indeed!!!

Warmest regards,

I find it difficult to interpret this one, but I would assume if something was wrong with this gentleman, you would already be there lending him a hand. Perhaps it is for one of those TV show that want to see just how much people care about their fellow man?? Yet with people laughing, perhaps he is a street performer. Odd to see some  not react at all. Well done Ruud.

fantastic shot! people on the right, that arrives from the street we see, is serious and dont know exactly what to do. but people on the left, standing and waiting, laugh.... so we can assume that there are no tragedies there and we can smile.

many thanks for your visits, comments and compliments!

And now the truth:

You saw a street actor.

He went one minute lie on the crossing and first exhorted the traffic especially to drive..

Then he stood up and walked on.

When really what happens people help here immediately...

With best regards / hartelijke groeten,

Ruud.

Looking this is true that first question to be is a real dramatic scene or an acting, the fact that makes me think that is an acting scene is people posture, most of them seem to be not so worried just bemused, yes the little girl has an interesting expression. Is a question to say:if this would be a real situation how many would helped him?I say this because it happened to me few years ago and for ,I don't know 3 or 4 minutes no ones came to see what with me in a place with maybe 25persons,a bus station center city.My opinion is that in last twenty years people became more materialistic, egoistical, preoccupied for there own material good, and lost the special thing we had:humanity and simply way to be one with other.Just my opinion, maybe I am wrong but is what I feel.

Wonderful work as usual Ruud.  Thanks for the notes on the scene.

I appears to show humans as a less caring animal than others.

Perfect composition.
