and i prefer 'barriers' to 'alone'... this conveys far stronger emotion - i suspect her expression has a lot to do with that, but color and light have a lot to do with it as well

I really enjoy that you both have divergent opinions regarding what makes the image strong...

I hope you also took the time to view this large... and you are so correct, her expression and personal darkness have a great deal to do with the effectiveness of this composition...

Color version seems as an interesting human exploration of course, but for me this BW version with an overwhelming approach is really formidable, here emotions are undressed, pure and complex at once. Chapeau for you.
