Wayne Sadler 555 Posted September 18, 2013 Not sure if this interpretation of a wedding party is best considered street or abstract, but it captures for me the memory of the many people all caught up in their experience of Rome and sharing a special moment with this bride and groom. Motivated by the urgent need to find a restroom, my wife and I came upon this wonderful restaurant atop a sort of pastry/confection/gelatto shop at the foot of the Spanish Steps (Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti), Rome, Italy. The steps, which are said to be the longest and widest staircase in Europe, lead from the Piazza di Spagna at its base to the Piazza Trinita dei Monti and the church Trinita dei Monti at the top. At some point while sampling the restaurant’s wonderful complimentary shrimp, cheese, and whatever appetizers and chatting, and joking with our Poland born waiter who spoke 6 languages (and who suggested opening the large floor to ceiling windows at our table overlooking the steps), we noticed a wedding taking place. I suspect this is the dream of many couples in Rome – to be wed at the Spanish steps. Imagine a wedding party made up of visitors from around the world. Even I was moved by the event. Comments and critique welcome. Oh, the restaurant is named “Barcaccia”. I highly recommend it. Link to comment
