I have a different interpretation - not better - just different. I was motivated to have just the bird being a bit darker but that would require more time re the edit. Did you use fill flash?

Here is a previous edit I did but decided not to post so I guess I was thinking about a cropped/darker image too.  Thanks!!!   AJ
