I think it would be a stronger composition if bird feeder was eliminated but then there is the problem that the bird isn't very sharp. Looks like autofocus may have been tracking the feeder rather than the bird.

You may be correct but - the image is pretty sharp especially for a bird that is moving so fast and is so difficult to focus on. Perhaps you were inclined to see the lack of sharpness in the beating wings?? But thanks for your comments.
