Ruud,

Great image, and for everyone that will look at this image I sincerely do advice you to watch the total collection you made of Dutch people working. I have never ever seen such a wonderful complete diary of images showing Dutch people at work during ordinary everyday life. It has become a monument and a tribute to our way of living. Thank you for sharing

Regards,

Herman

Hi Ruud,

A fine street scene.

The use of a shorter focal length lens for street candid has many advantage and some disadvantages.

This man saw you, which makes this shot more interesting due to his expression. In some places in South Florida, you would be approached and unfortunately confronted or have you camera removed.

Not everyone is like that here, but I find using longer telephoto lens provides a margin that has kept me out of trouble in areas that are more remote or known to have shady characters.

I have noticed that most people that you do photograph appear friendly or curious, and this makes for fine natural looking candid captures.

In busy areas, the shorter focal length lens allows for more scene elements to be captured and these can always be cropped on a "as need" basis for a final presentation, too.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

Nicely seen, Ruud. I feel it's a scene I might have photographed myself. Regarding Mike's comment on street photography, I understand his concern. Here in Japan, shooting rather close up seldom seems a problem; a smile and an acknowledging wave usually smooths any potential rough edges. My biggest problem here is that as soon as people see the camera they flash you the peace sign. I have only been challenged two or three times in ten year's shooting in Japan. Shooting in America is quite another kettle of fish. I am always much warier about shooting candid pictures of strangers and feel the chance of possible confrontation is much greater, especially on the street. It's certainly something that must be reckoned with.

Another great street scene from you Ruud, reading the above comments regarding long or short focal, i think the short focal helped you to get closer the scene and retained the attention of that man. Otherwise the shot would not have been what it is. His furtive look do it all! Well done my friend.

Best Regards.

Excellent capture Ruud. You have been so fortunate over the past few years with your street Photography. People are not as 'welcoming' here as well. I usually have to explain myself. But if it is at a concert in the park, they are usually not as concerned. If they see a longer lens, they often think they are going to be in the paper!

Great candid , but I agree with previous comments re: candids . I daren't point a camera at people in Chesterfield , I've been stopped by the Law before . Bill
