Thanks, stephanie and Gunnar.  This technique is very hit or miss.  I'll often take two small cameras with me, one set to a slow shutter speed for motion blur, the other set normally because... I'm still not quite comfortable with fully trusting in randomness!

I like this. 

 

However, I am still musing whether sharpness is a bourgeois concept or not.

This could be looked on as a sort of "blurry" formalism, after all. ;)

I very much agree with you - sharpness is overrated :)

Blur makes so much more picturesque image.
