Thanks Joe and Nadya for your comments. I was longtime looking for a good place to test the capacity of the Olympus OMD EM5 for night photography. Last week, the Fex Valley, a side vally of the Engadin, offered good conditions. I am quite impresses with what the sensor was able to capture. And Lightroom 5 did the rest. Karl

Karl,  Wonderful image.  The stars and sky are spectacular and the lighted and shadowed buildings give the image a restful human perspective, even though people are not present.  Have you tried opening up the shadows on the snowy mountains?  It might be nice if the snow were whiter.  This is not a criticism.  Great capture.  Larry

Dear Larry, thank you for your encouraging comment and for the very useful suggestion to lighten the snow in the mountains. I will give it a try, carefully, so that it does not compete with the milky way.

I very much appreciate this kind of well observed comments which allow seeing the photo with other eyes and improving it.

I also think that I could reduce the noise in the sky a bit. I was not aware how much it increased when I did the sharpening in JPG, before downloading the photo. Karl

Great winter scene! I love the cold snowy mountains and starry sky and the warmth coming from the buildings below them. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. :)
