What a wonderful image you share with us, Hamid ... excellent composition with great use of light. 7 all the way, my friend ... congrats.

Great horse photo. One of the most difficult subject matters in my opinion. Everything comes together beautiful here. The sunlight shining through a small hole in the heavy clouded sky. The fact that you caught a bit of that back light on this side of the horse elevates this to the sublime.

I dont know about the road to the left. It kind of starts nowhere and ends nowhere. Maybe it should not be there.

Thank you dear friends for positive input and comments. Very much appreciated.

Svend, The road was simply there, and the horse just by the road. Here is another view. Thank you for your insightful comment and your interest.

My best regards,

Hamid.

The other view - while great, it doesn't quite reach the main image. I cant wrap my head around how you managed to front-light the horse. And - theres the same issue with the road. Thats not a real problem - just a minor eye soar - well my pointing it out might have made it even more so :-(

I think the horse looks very much as my eyes would see it -- just a bit of light on the camera side so that it's not a complete silhouette.  Eyes see so much better than cameras (film or digital), and any work you've done on the horse has simply been done to overcome the limitations of your camera.  Nice work.

The road, on the other hand, just seems too bright.  Was the soil really this bright, or did you apply a bit of brightness there?  (BTW, I like the road and think it's perfectly fine for this composition....it's just the brightness that strikes me as "unnatural" or out of place).  Just for aesthetics, I'd be tempted to tone it down a bit -- keep the emphasis on the horse, the patch of sun on the hills, and the drama in the clouds.  IMO.

I captured multiple shots of this scene from different perspectives and with different angles, and naturally with different timing. Another view here was shot first with difference in timing in a matter of minutes. In this time difference , light changed rapidly ( and as a landscape photographer i experienced this change very usually and specially in this high altitude land, being near 2000 m over the sea level which change in weather is so rapid, enough to mentioned that i saw rain, lightning and rainbow in 2 hours of my stay there! ). The beginning of the road in this view is enlighted by rather diffuse light rays upon the land, but naturally becoming dimmed left side. The picture is a result of three bracketed shots , blended by luminosity masking, and light over the road is as near to normal as possible as was seen and witnessed by me. Thank you for your interest and insightful comments.

Hamid, A very beautiful composition. The light behind the horse is great and the fact that the horse is not silhouetted is even better. The rays of light beaming down onto this green field are very warming and present us with a fine image. I agree with Mr. Penland about the road. Take care my friend.

Best Always,

Holger
