I wasn't lucky enough to see it emerge , but the link is to a short but fascinating video on the life of the Larvae and Dragonfly . It is well worth seeing , even if you have no interest in natural history . Bill  Sorry link does seem to work you will have to cut and paste into your browser .

Nice ... too bad you didn't see it emerge but looks like you got it not too long after. I recently saw a bunch of empty "shells" but just one full grown dragonfly that looked like it emerged a while and waiting for it's wings to dry or something but there was no shell near it.
