When its chilly to begin with, it's very hard to stand in a mist so

thick it feels like rain. Just trying to keep your lens dry, is a

constant job but after it's all said and done you always feel like it

was worth the effort.

Superb photograph, very well rendered. Slowing the flow of water is very nicely achieved. With all due respect, and taking nothing away of this great composition, you might try to darken the top-center part of the image, where the river starts at the top, it might give it a bit more drama. This is of course, a matter of personal taste. All in all, it is an exquisite scene, and BW makes it more interesting. Congratulations.

Indeed it was well worth the effort!

The scene reminds me of the Scottish Highlands when the mists descend from the mountains and you are practically breathing rain and moisture!

(I did discover a useful little contraption for weather like this, its simply an umbrella that has a clamp instead of a handle and a flexi shaft that allows multi positions.  Designed for use on wheel chairs I thought it would be great to clamp onto a tripod leaving both hands free.  I seen it on Amazon.)

Great shutter speed and B & W tones!

Best Regards

I have processed this image a few times and in this attempt, I wanted a full range "print" but leaning more to maintaining the misty atmosphere that almost always exists at the near base of waterfalls. In the region that you mention, it is not a blank white but one with very high tones. I feel that darkening this area would look unnatural with all the surrounding high values. Maybe a very little might work, anyway, great observation and thanks for taking the time to comment.

It always a pleasure to hear from you, the little umbrella sounds like a good idea. as long as you're not too close to the waterfall. As you know, when your close, the mist comes at you from all directions. It kind of bounces upward from the surface of the water after falling. Thanks for taking the time Alf, I do appreciate it.

Exquisite shot, Leo. I take it that this was earlier in the season as it's been a pretty dry year. I was a bit undecided about the brightest whites 2/3 of the way up the stream but then I decided it made for a nice anchor tone and composition-wise.

This was taken in May of 2011, which was a very wet year. As I mentioned above, the lighter region is not without tones, they're just on the high end. In this rendition, I was going for the "misty" look, which was how it was at the time, and too much darkening in the distant, would look unnatural, to me. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Dave, I always appreciate the feed back.
