Wow, what a great composition.  I don't understand why the pelicans were gathering like that, but it's striking to see.  Then the relatively soft upsweep of the small ledge across the frame takes off from there, with the mountains and clouds showing faintly in the background.  It's a great range of tones and such an unusual perspective or assemblage of elements.

Thanks Steve. I was walking slowly toward them. They took off seconds after this release and I got two other pretty good images while in flight.

When I see this picture I see the world as it was before humans roamed it. Very primal, never had that with a picture, very well done!

I think Nick said it best. This is fresh, a surprising composition that feels completely original and intuitive. It's as if we weren't weighted down by a life time of images and associations but were seeing things for the first time.
