Hi Sam,

Nice shot.

A nice reminder of a failed design in roadway engineering.

As a young child, it was exciting for me to see such an event with this and other bridges in Florida.  Later on, as a driver, it became an irritation to have to wait for a single boat to pass by.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

Yeah Mike,

man's work often is a compromise.

What I didn't like was the metal grid as road surface on the moveable part of the bridge. You get an eery feeling that your tyres don't grip the earth very well & that uncontrolled skidding might be a real possibility.

After all, the area of a car which touches the road consist of four tyres, which each has an area of appr. two postcards only - that's not very much for grips.

Anyway, we survived & that's what counts.

Opening a bridge for only one boat is common practice in good old Europe too.

cheers

Sam
