I usually don't like HDR-type images ( I suppose that was the direction you were going here) because of the graininess of the resulting image and the flatness of the tones. But every dog has its day and here I think the technique works very well to underline the seediness of this back alley.

I'm not being facetious when I tell you that I actually thought the effect was one that made the scene inappropriately joyful and comedic. Like a carnival of debris and disorder. It was the incongruity that appealed to me. 

Not that it matters much, but this is not an HDR effect per se. It's a filter in the Nik plugins for Photoshop.

Little open mouths.  If I suspend reality and just look at the colors and shapes, this becomes a great abstract.  Kind of Diebenkorn.

Good scene with your signature on it, nicely captured. The finished result looks very much like a quick filter was applied and it doesn't appeal much to me. I like what you were thinking as a way to approach this photo, but don't think this accomplishes it in any sort of compellingly visual way. Fells kind of Cheech and Chong-ish to me.
