Birds (nature) is very tricky in harsh light.  Those dark shadows crossing the bird are a real problem.  Also i think a polarizer would go a long way towards improving this shot.

Title and composition are good however I must point out that the bird's head is really not in sharp focus. Unfortunately that is where my eye immediately goes to when looking at this picture. Sorry only a 3 for me.

Sam,

     What I was trying to say in my previous comment is that the birds head is out of focus/not very sharp. This is where my attention was immediately drawn to. Hope this helps in future shots.
