antonio.giacomo 0 Posted September 10, 2003 I had to look at this twice. The lady seems to be wearing a transparent dress, or was it a trick of the light? The tonal range of the negative is extreme far too great to get into a 16-bit channel, let alone 8 bits. If I have time, I will try printing it properly, but, perhaps, it might be better to spend the time writing some intelligent software to do it. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted September 10, 2003 I think I'm going to have to try Kodak Tri-X 400 pro. Link to comment
antonio.giacomo 0 Posted September 11, 2003 Hi Tony, The reason I am using Tri-X for available light work is that it can be pushed two stops to give a true ISO 1600 rating, which is effectively faster than the 3200 films, and has finer grain. However, it does need a low-gamma developer for the pushing, otherwise you will end up with very contrasty negatives, which can be printed on soft paper, but do not scan at all well. For an ISO 400 black and white film I use Kodak T400 CN, which gives significantly better results than Tri-X with standard development. It can be pushed to 1600, but Tri-X is better at that speed.
