Hi Chuck,

Some great lighting you've got going on here!

I've been on the road with my daughter the last few days traveling from NE Oklahoma back to the Kansas City area then on to SW Idaho. Traveling across Nebraska, Wyoming, & Utah I experienced many scenes close to yours here but, I must admit, . . . I'm stumped to know "what part of the country" you were in!

I really like the contrasting reddish tones with the big blue sky which certainly adds to the attractiveness of your composition here. The details in the rock formations are nice and crisp also.

Very nicely done!

Regards always,

Jim j.

Hi;

Thanks for your comments.

I took this photo in Arches N.P., which is in eastern Utah. There are many, many  good sights to photograph in that area and several national parks. Capital Reef is one area I especially recommend.

Chuck, I like this.  Why don't you try cropping just above the white cloud (maybe even clipping some of the cloud on the left) and see what you think of the resulting composition.

Thanks for your comments and suggestion. I think a number of different crops would work on this image. I chose this one to have the sky provide a strong counterpoint to the rocks.

Chuck,  Wonderful image.  The deep color in the rocks is perfectly exposed in contrast to the shadows that have just the right amount of detail.  i like the composition and full vertical frame just as it is, although I too can see different crops.  Because the sky fills the entire background, the image looks almost other-worldly, apt for Arches.  This is most artistic and extremely well done.  Larry

Larry mentions one thing that I also like about the photograph -- the range of light that includes detail in the shadows; for me, that's one of the best aspects of your photo.

Great color and tonal range.  I think the balance between the rocks and the sky is just right, and cropping the top would lead to a "bottom" heavy appearance
