The burrowing owl isn’t your typical owl: It doesn’t live in trees, it

nests underground, usually in abandoned rodent burrows; it’s not

nocturnal as it is active both day and night and it is considered a

species of concern since its breeding population has been

significantly decreasing. It is only about 10 inches in height and lives

in open spaces. This guy flew up to a post from its burrow when I

approached. This shot is unusual for me as most of my other

burrowing owl shots show them on the ground. Any critiques on

composition or technical aspects of this image are appreciated.

I love owls, once I had a free lance firm called "Owl" and they called me Pero buf (owl) in the laboratory where my pictures were being processed!

Best regards

Very nice Dave! I never seen the BO off the ground ever and this one is the first, locally in SoCal there are some in Bolsa Chica wetland that we used to shoot but one was eaten by the Coyote a while back. The danger of hanging low in the ground :-)

Hi Dave,

I found that your image compliments  the  magnificent stature of this fine bird.

Well done at 500mm F/6.3.

Best Regards, Mike

A very nice shot, Dave.  I have only photographed burrowing owls once, and they were always at ground level.  Good to see this POV.

Thanks to all for the comments. I posted comments as best as I could for you all as well.

There are several of you I have not seen comments from before - you are always welcome to give me very honest feedback - I have a strong interest in learning and take criticism just as a means to learn - never personnaly.
