The girl is the element in this photo that most captures my attention and imagination. I'm not sure what the car in the background adds. To me, it makes the photographic story a bit awkward.

Fred. I too have been very uncomfortable with the background. I cloned out and de-saturated the car parts to reduce the distraction. This was a fleeting moment that I had to capture when and where it was. You know that three things make a good candid photograph; subject, photographer's readiness and ability and luck. I badly missed luck in it. However I felt that the child's expression and mother's interaction are worthy of sharing. I am glad that it received attention from photography stalwarts.
