Nice work as usual, friend John ... Nice expression captured, nice lighting and colours and love the way you composed it ...

Raymond,

Joslyn is a very pretty girl. She has a nice expression. Her make-up is well done. She has fun finger nails even if the color doesn't go with anything else in the photo. She composition is very good. It wouldn't have hurt to take a smidgen off the top. The rim lighting is very good and helps to separate her from the background. She has excellent eye contact with the camera (viewer). You have focused well on her eyes. The background is nicely out of focus which helps to make Joslyn stand out. I love her dress. At first glance the patter appeared to be cut-outs.

The light area in the background -- right upper 2/3 of image -- doesn't take the viewer's eyes away from Joslyn too much, but it would have been nice if it would have at least darkened towards the edges of the frame. It kind of draws the viewer's eyes to the side of the frame and out of the picture.

You have multiple catch lights in each eye. One catch light per eye is preferred. The ideal position for a catch light is at about the 10 or 2 o'clock position on her irises, not centered from the fill light on your camera. To achieve this your main light should be above, in front and to the side of your subject. Notice that one of the catchlights in each eye is blue. It is probably the one from the fill on your camera flash.

The skin tones on Joslyn are rather strange. They go from an orangey tint on her face through a not bad skin tone on her arms and upper legs to a red on her right hand. The skin tone should be relatively consistent unless there is a very good reason. The sun could be lighting just one area of her body, but it is not in this image.

Her left hand is posed very well, but you have a problem with her right hand. Avoid having the back (or palm) of the hand towards the camera. This can make her hand look overly large. The edge (side) of the hand towards the camera is thinning, feminine and graceful. The little finger towards the camera with the fingers cascading rather than side by side is preferred.

She has very good posture, but she is leaning back just a tad.

In her squatting position she is putting too much pressure on her knees and where her thighs meet her calves. The skin at her knees looks taught and white, and there are budges on the sides of her legs. It looks a little uncomfortable.

I'm not so sure the nail polish color and the pattern on her nails goes with her outfit and the scene you have created. It might work better if is she was at a dance or a party.

I like her bright ring and cute little flower in her fuzzy hair, but both draw my attention. I am not a big fan of anything within the picture which draws my attention away from the subject.

It is quite appropriate to put your name on the mat just where you have placed yours. "Photograph by" is implied and to state it is really redundant.

Nice shot,

Mark

Mark - when you write a review, it is quite the review!

I will stick with a simple - I like the girl, , the dress, the pose and the light.

Great portrait well composed. She has good eye contact with the viewer and is positioned in the frame well. The light part on the upper right hand side does not bother me at all, it adds another dimension of light and texture. A very fine image Raymond.
