tm_j 30 Posted June 4, 2013 Thanks Rejith! Thanks Michael! That's the view we had when we went to bed (around 12PM), we just park the Motorhome and never realize that it's one of the best view of Seward (from the other side of the bay). This shot is kind of an accidental shot since I did not bring my graduated ND filter and the sky is much brighter than the bottom. Had a bit of conversation with a friend about being able to shoot this without filter and just to prove it I had shot this at 30 seconds (did not bring my cable either and can not use 'bulb') but it was a bit dark and I bump the ISO to 250 to fix that. What I did is to use the lens cap and cover but move it around the upper part of the view to get less exposure time at the top and it works out ok. Had I used a black cloth to cover the entire camera view and move that cloth up slowly it would have been more even, I think. Link to comment

tm_j 30 Posted June 4, 2013 Thanks Dom! Good to hear from you, the voice from Paradise :-) - I've read of this technique a few years back and tried it a few times before. I can not locate the original website that I had read about it but the link below is just as good : http://icelandaurora.com/blog/2010/07/20/tonys-magic-cloth-technique/ Obviously, it works in low light condition where you have time to move the cloth slowly up to cut exposure to the top but in bright light condition ... we still have to go get our ND filter :-) Link to comment
stp 6 Posted June 4, 2013 I really like the nearly monochrome look but with a line of red lights across the middle. Nice technique, but perhaps a bit too much because the reflection should be darker than the source. Hard to calculate, I know, with your improvised technique; overall, you did very well, IMO.
