alfbailey 2 Posted May 31, 2013 Some muted colour as our late spring tree foliage did its best to remain anonymous behind the misty curtain. Minimal processing. Your thoughts and comments are always apreciated. Thank You. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted June 1, 2013 Sublime landscape and the serene lake, cabin and pasture would make this a place hard to leave... Excellent detail even in this soft light.... Mike Link to comment
daveinwilton 1 Posted June 1, 2013 Absolutely darling location. The broken landscape makes a excellent background, and once again the misty waters add great charm. The stonework of the boathouse contrasts so well with the organic scene. A beautiful capture by an adept photographer. A pleasure to view. Thank you for sharing. Best regards... -Dave Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted June 1, 2013 Of your three current & similar posts I like this one best. The composition is one in which the viewer's eye goes right to your subject likely due to it's colours which contrast strongly with the majority greenery. There is, for me, too much foreground in this one and too much competition between major elements in this one. Like Goldilocks I find this one 'just right'. But I've been known (proven?) to be wrong before. :-) Best, LM. Link to comment

alfbailey 2 Posted June 5, 2013 It was a beautiful morning, as I drove from this location further around the lake to the left, the sun started to illuminate the trees and the colours were amazing. The cabin in this image is a holiday cottage which can be rented ......nice place to chill out for a week. Many Thanks for your thoughts and comments Mike! Best Regards Alf DAVEYou are right, the location is very special! The little boathouse is an iconic landmark of the Lake District, and difficult to get an original looking shot of it, but the fog helped in this case.Glad you liked this one Dave and thank you sincerely for your thoughts and comments! Best Regards Alf LEN I sometimes think the only thing I have learned, is that there is no wrong or right when it comes to photography. So I take on board your comments and appreciate your honesty. I suppose this one is the kind of classic out of the three, in terms of composition and subject. Now go eat your porridge : - )I'm very pleased you like it Len. Thank You! Best Regards Alf TIMIt is indeed a wonderful location, and one that has inspired countless famous poets and writers over decades. I never get tired of visiting this area, I'm so very fortunate to have this within 2 hours travelling distance of home.Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf PATSY Many Thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf TONY Many Thanks, I appreciate your interest and positive feedback!Alf PER Always a pleasure to hear from you, and thank you so much for your positive feedback! Best Regards Alf MIKE P F5.6 seems to work well at all focal lengths, and I am getting used to the weight of this lens now, which at first had noticible wobbles even when attached to a tripod. Many Thanks my friend! Alf GRAYHAM Very good to hear from you! I do hope you are keeping well (no email updates lately) Oooh you would have loved this place! The fish were making small ripples under the misty blanket and I could hear the occasional splash as they jumped!I can just imagine eating breakfast on that balcony whilst contemtplating which flys to use................<sigh> I am very pleased you liked this one Grayham, and my sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback. Christal1664882414 0 Posted June 6, 2013 Ah.....so you posted it! But I guess I didn't have to tell you it would be well received. All of your images are! I still think this is an enchanting place. Henry Henry David Thoreau comes to mind.....he did much of his writing at a place called Walden Pond, which I picture to be a retreat and escape similar to this location. This scene conjures up all types of thoughts......how wonderful it would be to escape the daily grind by spending time here....it would offer a place for personal refection and communing with nature. Maybe you could go here when it's time to write that book you want to write! :-) At any rate, it's a wonderful moody image, and evokes a feeling of solitude. You may find the following website about Thoreau interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walden Thoreau outlines his project: a two-year, two-month, and two-day stay at a cozy, "tightly shingled and plastered," English-style 10' × 15' cottage in the woods near Walden Pond. He does this, he says, to illustrate the spiritual benefits of a simplified lifestyle. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted June 6, 2013 A lovely image Alf. You have photographed this cottage but from a different POV?? I am sure the image is taken from the side of the cabin, and the mountains could be seen across the lake. But I think it was taken earlier in the season, as I think you mentioned the roads were icy and you were afraid of oncoming traffic, if any. I didn't realize you could rent this place, perhaps you finally could, and have that coffee, as you gaze across at the mountains while you and the Mrs. have a coffee at sunset on the Balcony!!! So nice to see all the trees with leaves and the countryside behind the Cottage. Link to comment

alfbailey 2 Posted June 7, 2013 I never get tired of the responses I get, there are always surprises both positive and negative which never fail to fascinate me. I suppose thats just another aspect of photography that holds my interest, the psychology of the viewer, Gary Woodards comments makes for very interesting reading, not only relating to my images but many others also .I must research Henry David Thoreau, it sounds like the kind of writing I would enjoy reading. He sounds like quite a rebellious character from the brief glimpse I have had of his profile. The Lake District is well known to have inspired many famous writers and poets, William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter being amongst them.I have had the great privelidge to walk amongst the very daffodils that gave rise to the opening lines of that most famous of poems "I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd A host, of golden daffodils". (William Wordsworth Circa 1804-1807) This will be one of the places that I am sure to mention in my book, and yes it would indeed be a wonderful place to stay a while and do some writing. I am now obssesed with looking at camper vans and fully intend to put my plans in place later this year.Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Christal! Best Regards Alf GAIL You have a fantastic memory, no one else identified the boathouse from the photo I took in the winter, and you even remembered the scary bit about the traffic in the darkness when I set up the tripod on the roadside. Maybe I will rent this place one day........perhaps for just a weekend so I can sit on that balcony, and drink coffee as I watch the sun come up over the distant mountains and listen to the birds singing and the faint splashes of the fish as they rise to take the early season hatch of nymphs.....<sigh>I am glad you liked this one Gail, I am sure you let out a sigh when you looked at that balcony too, so inviting : - )Sincere Thanks! Alf PANAYOTIS It is a magical place, particularly in the light of dawn.Thank you so much for your interest and kind words! Best Regards Alf RANGA "Pristine moment" ..........yes you are right, the gentle light of dawn is but fleeting at this time of year. Many Thanks! Alf Link to comment
hamidfarzandian 0 Posted June 8, 2013 This is an excellent shot! Nice use of blue, orange and green to creat such intense beautiful and natural contrast. If i was, i prompted to enhance reflections, but here the mist did all the beauties expected! Nice shot. Bravo.Hamid. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted June 11, 2013 I know just what you mean! I think there is always great temptation to enhance certain aspects of images like this, increasing contrast and definition. But I have tried to leave it in as much of its natural state as possible. I am not that great with PP work and one of the things i have noticed when previously attempting to process misty shots, was that I effectively reduced the misty effect.Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Hamid, much appreciated!
