Unusual looking boat, with an unusal name (hence the title) but it

had an old kind of look that I found appealing.

Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated Thank You.

I believe the Libbas has had some issues with water tightness.  I love the mists on the water, creating the muted reflections in the foreground.  Because of its color, the white sail boat beyond does attract a lot more attention than it deserves, and the trees unfortunately seem weak as background, but we so often do get what we are offered.  It is a fine image, taken technically sound, but over-all, visually, not one of your best in my honest opinion.  I am sorry if this sounds harsh.  Best regards...

HI Alf-well, maybe not a masterpiece, but nevertheless appears the small white craft has turned its back on this probably intruder, the buildings on the dock are completely shuttered. Are they sending a message to the unknown owners of this unusual craft.Have spent more time wiith this image than the other two, nice as they are. This one stirs the curiousity, who are the owners & what are they like. the outside looks a little rough but it may have a long & interesting history. The interior may be completely different, perhaps even luxurious .but, alas, we will never know. Thanks for visiting my river pic & sorry to be late answering your comments, was out of town for a few days.Would appreciate you revisiting the site.As always, Best Regards-Ross

Incroyable texture de la surface, c'est comme si l'on voulait traverser le mythique miroir.

Dave, you could be right about the water tightness, the boat looks like a patchworth quilt! It was the muted reflection that attracted me to take the shot too. And I agree the white boat should have been toned down, it is a bit too bright. I think the trees were in shadow, I could have added more contrast and saturation, but I wanted it to appear as I saw it.  As for sounding harsh, not at all Dave, I value your honesty and they can't all be my best photo's : - )

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

This boat is a curious affair, the name itself is curious, particulary as London is a long way from the lake where this craft is situated. But it was more the reflections that I liked than the boat itself. It certainly looks like it has character though.

Many Thanks Ross!

Hi Alf,

Besides the beauty portrayed here, I found this image to appear like a slightly tilted framed picture hanging on a wall.

The 0.46 degree tilt is attractive, indeed.

Alf, I think there are two subjects here - the misty scenery and an unusual boat. I think the unusual boat takes away from the misty feeling because the boat is so colorful. And the mist takes away from the boat's brightness. I think both are interesting subjects, but maybe not together.

Many Thanks my friend for your observations and kind words.

The slight tilt perhaps goes hand in hand with the strange appearance of the boat. But I can't take any credit for it, as it was an oversight rather than a deliberate attempt to add to the character of the image.

I think you have a point, its something of a bizarre scene, and certainly not your typical pretty picture of a boat.

One of the things I don't like is the position of the boat at what looks like the edge of the water, or at the seam of water / land.

I think the two elements of water and boat would compliment each other a whole lot more if my perspective had been better.

Mnay Thanks for your interest and observations Dave.

Hi ALF_Like this one the best of your 3 images. It's nice how the slowly rising mist adds a touch of mystery & the overall soft tones of the scene create very peaceful scene & is visually pleasing.Must admit to being somewhat perplexed. In the first image the boat, ooops people who have boats don't like their boats being called boats they like their boats to be called ships, vessels, yachts etc. although to me they still look like a boat.nuff said The bow of the first vessel is pointing to the right whereas the bow of the second vessel points to the left & the background is completely different & the background of the cottage picture appears to be a blend of the other two backgrounds Are these scenes close together & the boa ships just turning with changes in the current flow.I await your reply with baited breath Best Regards-Ross

Always good to hear from you!

The positions of the "boat" : - )

Is easilly explained, I simply walked around the lake to take this shot from the other side of the boat.  You will note that even the light is different, this side being mostly in shadow, whilst the previous shot the sun was almost backlighting the mist. The image of the boathouse was taken approx 30 minutes earlier and from about 2 miles away on the southern end of the lake. I hope that solves the mystery for you Ross, and thank you so much for your thoughts and positive feedback.

Why not a vertical shot? This is my first impression after seeing this shot. This composition is also very strong and perfect, with very natural looking light and colors. Details are awesome when viewing large. Bravo.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions, very much appreciated!

The image is optimised for the larger size and as such can be appreciated a bit more.

Its a good point the portrait orientated shot, I don't think it occurred to me as there was a great contrast in light.

I have taken a few in landscape mode, that shows the different light, maybe I'll post one of them.

Cheers Hamid!

I am sorry I didn't get back to this image the other day Alf. It is an unusual boat, but I bet it is a 'Classic'!! It is nice they have the 'cover' on the back so protect from rain, damp or cold weather, or just to sleep overnite. Looks like they have lots of room inside, would be really interesting to see just what it looks like inside. I love 'wooden boats'!! Lovely reflections captured on this misty morning Alf. Your Lake District reminds me a lot of our Cottage Country, we just don't have the Mountains here in Southern Ontario. Lovely! Who would not wish to just be lazing on that boat????

It does have a most unusual appearance! I think it may be in the process of renovation. The Hull appears to be metal but the superstructure looks to be made of timber.

The name fascinated me also LONDON LIBBAS I have no idea what Libbas means and the lake is situated at the other end of the country from London.

It would be lovely to wake up on board to the smell of coffee and bacon and eggs : - )  Ahhh what a life!  Well I can dream!

I must research your "Cottage Country" there is nothing quite like a homely retreat to enhance the wild beauty of the countryside.

Always good to hear from you Gail, and thank you so much for your positive feedback!

Hi, Alf!

I love the picture: softness of it is really appealing, reminding me the works of some artists. I love the painterly look of the reflected trees. Mist does it's wonders again. I have to play lottery more often and win a car - so much I miss... :( . But I am very glad you travel and show us the places. Warmest regards, Tamara

This image is a paradigm case of how to communicate mood.  Obviously the layer of the mist immediately conveys peace and quiet, but so does the understated color and detail of the trees.  For whatever it's worth, even though the white of the sailboat is somewhat pronounced, it doesn't distract from the image's overall effect.

As always, high quality work . . .

My best,

michael

I agree the presence of mist does have a great effect on photographs, it tends to mute the colours and give an ethereal quality to them that I like.

I wish you well with your lottery win, you have such talent its a shame it is restricted by a transport situation. But on the positive side, you still manage to get some great shots!

I am moving ever closer to the day I buy that camper van and start my travels and my book in earnest!

Sincere Thanks for your encouraging feedback Tamara.

Warm Regards

MICHAEL

I hope you are keeping well!

I am glad you liked the mood of this one. It was a an unusual image to photograph in the sense that this area was still in shadow, whilst outside the frame there was area's of bright sunshine. But it was the same understated colours and reflections that you describe, that attracted me to take the shot also.

Sincere Thanks for your most encouraging feedback!

Best Regards
