Nice shot. The light is beautiful. I find the rock on the lower left corner a little distracting. I feel that leaving it out of the frame would have reduced the clutter and made the image stronger. Good shot all the same.

Cheers.

i love the light that attracts your eye....seen in most of your photos. i also admire your comp skills. your imagery combines illustrative photos with magical light which results in fairytale photographs that i love ;-)

i like so many of your shots, but this one was not already loaded with commentary, so, thought i'ld add my own. You have a wonderful sense of lighting and exposure and shots like your fenceline etc. are truly memorable. Compositionally, I often find some detail to critique within your photos and from reading the other discussions, you are often aware of these details yourself. In this shot (in the mood of good-natured constructive critique) two elements merge to bring YOU (the photographer) too much into the image:

1. the position (standing roughly). the side lighting would have permitted you to squat down more thereby removing yourself a bit more from the image. alternatively, you could have gone higher (standing on rock) and shot directly down.

2. as the footprints (human) move towards you, (even if they are not yours) it brings you again in the photo... as if they were yours. had you reversed the image so that the dog prints were moving towards you and the human print receeding, the image would have been more provacative... and less photographer-oriented.

nevertheless, i like your work... and like this photo. my comments are meant in good spirit and you should be proud of your great portfolio. I chose this shot for comment, because i felt i had something new to add. take care and thanks for sharing your great stuff.

Pete, thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate the detailed critique. I rarely get these and I love it when people do this! I see what you mean about the footprints leading in my direction. (They weren't mine btw, they just happened to be there) I never thought about it that way but I guess you have a point. Next time, I'll try different angles. As for shooting from a lower angle, my only concern with that would be that I would lose the footprints because they weren't that deep in the sand to begin with. Thanks again!

This is what I call "simple and effective". The subject, that some could see uninteresting, became really interesting by the very good composition, the sharpness and the nice light. Tones are beautiful also.
