Raymond, you do know that in Japan a tattoo of any kind let alone one as glorious as this immediately associates the bearer of it with the yakuza. There are hot springs with signs saying 'Persons with tattoos are not permitted to use these hot springs'. And so any young women who rips open her kimono and shows a tattoo like this would immediately be classified. I did once see a very young woman in the bath at an inn with quite an extensive body tattoo. She kept to herself in a corner. I wondered in whose company she had come. High school students who go to NZ are sometimes made to sign a pledge they will not get a tattoo, in case it ruins their future! AG

Well I did know that the yakuza are heavily tattooed but I did not know that they were the only ones with Ink. It seems that they have become very popular with young women here in the last several years. I also know that I enjoy well made body art and feel sorrow for those that wear for life poorly made tattoos. Many of the really poor ones are done in prison.  The wise ones do a bit of research before getting lifelong markings and find artists that are a cut above. That being said, this young woman is proud of her Ink she is.

Yes, and some young people, guess what, even smoke pot! Excellent work!  Striking posture and expression and great gold/violet colour set...and your signature style!

Well, admittedly, I am also more concerned with the photography .. : -)

.. and an excellent image it is too once again - colourful, decorative, innovative and fun, bravo.

Vlad and John, my comments about tattooing were not meant as a criticism of them as such, nor, of course, of Raymond's work. They are merely a part of occasional exchanges we have about things Japanese, in this case haori or kimono begun under other images. Nevertheless this image would be seen quite differently in Japan than California!

Sure Adrienne, no problem, thank you. Just wanted to highlight the qualities of Raymond's photo above all.
