Solfar / Sun Voyager 1971. Artist: Jon Gunnar Arnason (1931 - 1989). Sunset in Reykjavik. First I want to say: I am not trying to repeat my image "Waiting for the right moment ...". This image "Friendship" was the final one in a 130 digital photo exhibition in Reykjavik on 16.8. 2003. The theme was " A day in Reykjavik" That day we have a "Cultere Night" here in Reykjavik. Other image of mine, in my "Iceland - IMAGE" folder, "Faith" was the beginning image in the same show. This image "Friendship" is dedicated to all of you here on PN. I hope you like it. Lluisa and Pingu pingu: Thank you for your kind comments. The exhibition was indeed total 129 images from 14 photographers. My part was 10 images. Two of them are now posted here on PN. They are: "Faith" and "Friendship", both made for that exhibition.

Best regards, Baldur

Igor, Audrey, Anna, Walter and Marina, thank you for your time and kind comments. I appreciate it very much.

To Pingu Pingu: About your speculation of "Hors Competition": It would not be bad to be in company with Anna Pagnacco!

All the best, Baldur

I have said it before, and I say it again, Baldur! You are a Master of the wideangle.

Hello My Friend:

The two figures silhouetted against the reflected sunset (and perfectly composed, I might add), are certainly emblematic of your title "Friendship."

Then there's the Viking longboat! Now, I can understand why this is revered in Iceland. But for the coastal people's of Scotland and Ireland, the appearance of a longboat on the horizon was perhaps the ultimate terror. Indeed, my Scots ancestors spent most of the period from 1000-1100 driving Viking warriors back into the sea.

But I suppose it was this hostile reception by the Celts that provided Eric the Red, Leifr Eiriksson, and Biarni Heriolfsson with the incentive to push westward to Iceland, Greenland and even Newfoundland.

Hope we get to see you other images from this exhibit soon. -- Jim

Howard, Michael, Saikat, Roberta, Ringo, Otto, Peta, Skuli and Jim, thank you for your kindness and friendship. I appreciate it very much.

To Skuli: As you have been running photography seminars more than 20 years, I concider this as a great compliment from the Master himself!

To Jim: I´m glad to hear that you know the story. About the other images, they are different to these two but who knows?

All the best, Baldur

A very nice photograph with good use of lights and darks. For me, though, it lacks an edge. There's no real dynamic to it. It ends up saying to me that this was a very pretty sky and use of silhouette, but what else? It's basically a calendar shot. I'd look at it, but not really notice it too much after one or two views. I have lots of shots of pretty skies and silhouetted figures myself which, after I really looked at them, I called my calendar shots or office wall picture. My viewpoint may also be colored currently by my renewed interest in black and white photography and documentary style shooting.

You did brilliantly to notice a really intriguing and original

silhouette to separate this image from so many other attempts at

capturing this time of evening at seascapes.

The boat looks like a big insect about to crawl away - perhaps

after the two people. It's an enchanting aspect in the very quiet

drama of this image.

There is nothing you could complain of wanting to have included

or to have done differently given the chance again at the same

location. Unless, of course, you wanted to take a very different

approach - which I am sure others will keenly point out to you! I'll

leave them to give such unnecessary advice.

Very well done!

I think it's a really nice picture, no doubt. But, I think, it doesn't represent the theme. The coulors, so bright, the two person, the boat, sign of the possibility to be annoying and therefore to exceed the difficulties: I really can't find why should these picture represent the darkness
