This image was made in my very recent photography expedition to New

Zealand in April 2013. This was also my first experience of using my

new Nikon D800E with lens 14-24mm f/2.8.

This image actually shows a very wide view of this location (I guess

wider than our human eyes in reality): it presents about 220 degrees

wide from left to right, and 150 degrees from ground to the sky. It

was made from 12 shots using D800E with lens 14-24mm f/2.8 at 14mm

focal length, then been stitched one by one together in Photoshop. The

camera and lens were excellent, that revealed so many details of the

place even in a very dark environment. Processing this image is quite

tedious due to a very large size. The original image jpg file is over

73 MB.

All 12 shots were taken within 10 minutes before 6am of the local

time. While the right side was dark enough to clearly see the Milky

Way, the east side (left) mountains were already illuminated by the

rising sun.

Thanks for viewing this image.

This is surely a heavy weight entry. I love the lighting balance of this image. It is illustrative of the evolving galaxies viewed from our planet. Thanks for sharing this stunning photo.
