I'd appreciate a critical eye on this image. I had very harsh mid-day

lighting with a lot of vegetation preventing me from using a flash.

The mixed light came across the pair and taking straight images looked

pretty bad. Instead I set my timer and ran behind the snakes to block

the light. In Photoshop I upped the contrast a touch and added a

little more saturation, but otherwise I left the image untouched. I'd

appreciate if you think I over did it or if the effect works.

Thanks.

Hi Doug,

The lighting looks natural.

However, using the 100mm F/2.8 macro at F/13 really compromised the lens capability to provide both improved contrast and clarity from the image.

I do applaud you for your using the timer to allow yourself time to block out some lighting effects. I do not know the habits of the mating copperheads, but I would suspect that you efforts might be at risk from these poisonous snakes.

Best Regards, Mike

Hi Doug,

I added a bit more color contrast to see how this scene would stand out.

It is a matter of preference. I like both the more suppressed contrast as well as the higher level to emphasize the snake.

No offense, but these guys aren't my favorite subjects! ;-) But I'm offering a slight modification with just increased contrast and sharpening.  Oh, I did burn the corners to keep attention centered.  A unique find, I've never seen two Copperheads together... Mike

Doug,

Great shot. ML M's rendition is pretty good. You can do a lot with PS if you have enough info to work with which your macro should give you. Your f13 gave great dof, any shallower would have  lost a lot of focus and would not have improved quality any in this case.

Here's another version- I'm sure there are many different variations possible- depends on personal preference.  G

Y'all are the greatest!  yes, I was trying to get as much depth of view as possible, hence the f13.  This pair was stone still.  I obviously need a touch more contrast in the image so I'll play with it. Thanks for all your suggestions.
