JatinderKeith 0 Posted July 5, 2013 This is obviously a set up image. It must have involved considerable effort to have the bird park on the finger and give such a pose as is apparent from other pictures of this bird. The motion blur of the wings normally would be a negative for such an arranged photograph. The positive is that it lends the image a sense of authenticity. May be a frozen motion might have looked better. Again an established principal is that the foreground and the background should not draw focus away from the main subject. The well-focused background creates a feel of natural environment for the bird. Your images 'On The Lookout' and 'Tiny Feet' better capture the beauty of the bird. In this image Janine your effort and achievement draw a wow. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted July 5, 2013 I guess all of the "wow's" are for getting the hummingbird to perch on someone's finger. The iridescent throat feathers on this individual are a bit limited, but there are few things more spectacular (and truly deserving of a "wow") in the bird world than these feathers fully reflecting sunlight, especially as the bird twists back and forth on a perch while purposefully spreading these feathers during the breeding season. This photo gives a small hint at that possibility. Nice to have a catchlight in the eye -- that tiny spot of light adds much. Link to comment
