charles_brennan 0 Posted May 8, 2013 Robert, this is fantastic. I really like the complementing yellows and oranges - flowers in the foreground almost the same colors as the clouds in the background - a matched set. Overall very warm feel. Great detail. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted May 9, 2013 I don't rate, but note that of the landscapes today so far only two have scored above 5.0, overlooking entirely this very good work.I especially like how the cut of the mountain light in the background is mirrored by the line and color of the flowers, foreground for a wonderful, thoughtful composition. In thumbnail and reduced size, interestingly, it shows better than when enlarged to its largest because in larger size the emptiness and barrenness between the mountains and the foreground is too emphatic and detracts somewhat to my eye, and I am wondering if that is a place for exploration, but without more suggestion than that -- a place for more exploration just in contrast and brightness if you intend to show it 'large' or print it, as the barrenness (to my mind) of the center in the larger version competes with the wonderful mirroring of the distant golden light and its nearer, flower mirror. I'd have been pleased to see and take such a photo. Disregard the ratings -- I suspect they're being done by a small claque of people, at least in the beginning, and these few people have far too much power in setting visibility because 'high ratings guarantee greater visibility' which is a shame, but sooner or later the ratings system works pretty well and over time the good stuff shines through (as this). Two or three years ago, this would be a high 5's or a low 6 photo, in my recollection -- the ratings system here has changed very much overall, and mostly because of advent of anonymous ratings and not just for eliminating 'mate-ratings' mutual backslapping, but because people don't make friends at all by rating anymore, which is an unfortunate byproduct. (I never really rated to avoid any suspicion of mate-rating favoritism.) Best wishes john John (Crosley) Link to comment
