Today was extremely hot!! We had a few errands to run and then I

coaxed Jim to come to one of my favorite nurseries to see what we

might find. We are planning to replace some bushes at the front of

our house. Because of the heat, we didn't stay long, but managed to

find a nice little Japanese Maple that was very beautiful. While Jim

was paying for it, I managed to snap a few images. I did not notice

the name of this little flower (so tiny), but it was very pretty.

Sometimes when I take Nursery shots, I don't always get the best

backgrounds. I did place a texture over the background that was not

very pleasing. Any visits, comments, always appreciated ;-) Gail

Beautiful image Gail.  Wonderful colours in the flower complimented by a great background.  Well done.

Hi Gail,

Another well executed image technically.

Using the Canon 100mm F/2.8 macro at F/2.8 reveals the clarity that this lens is capable of providing. The in and out of focus blur works well to emphasize the sharpness where it is best used and the softness that often represents the peddles of these beautiful flower in Nature.

Once again, my student earns an A++.

Warmest Regards, Mike

Hi Mike,

With this one, I was determined to have the Stamen in good focus. I am so glad that it worked out satisfactorily.

Thank you sincerely,  for the encouraging words.

Hi Gail,

The stamen is remarkable for how it jumps out of the image...almost a 3D effect! I love the colors, especially those in the background. This is beautiful!

i've taken some interesting nursery shots, but i don't do it so often.

it's a beautiful picture, somehow, though it doesn't shout out.  it's more relaxed.  i like it a lot.  best, j

Gail,

Nice soft subtle colors.  Focus & DOF spot on.  The image maintains the delicateness of the flower.  Thanks for this one.

Rick

BTW - I believe this is a Blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium)

I like this simple flower and result with focus control you did, central stamens and part of petals clear and blur round this, also not to forget the idea of bg that transform maybe a common green in something nice to see,my compliments.

a beautiful flower Gail, that blends very well with the soft yellow/green background...i like how the petals are fairly well focused but not overly and the overall glow to this image...nice work...regards....David

Gail, I realize that the background is not natural only because you wrote it. The nail driven in the center of the nice flower anchors it to the base of the image. Lovely.

Photos of flowers are much harder to get right than many people think. Getting the colours right, the appropriate DOF, the background etc is important but very tricky. I think you've done a really good job here, Gail. It looks beautifully artistic.
