Pelican in the evening LIght

After the sun has set on a recent spring evening in northern Minnesota

and the sky and water were loosing there light and I saw this white

Pelican swimming by and set up my tripod and took this photo.

Nice image, the dark featureless background is a good match for the white bird. I had no idea that pelicans made it up to Minnesota. What's going on with his (or her) bill? On a technical note, I find this image a little too dark. I think a levels adjustment to lighten the pelican would improve it.
