My focus was not 'spot on' in this image, and the background

was 'blown' on the right side, but I did want to use the 'fly' in an

image. I decided to do a Composition and enter it under Digital

Alterations. I chose to add a Texture to take care of the 'background',

and boosted the Saturation a bit. I wanted the Composition to look

more like a Painting. This is not meant to be a technically perfect

Macro. Hopefully I can find some better ones as I dig through my

files. I did enjoy working on this one. (any visits and comments are

always welcome, many thanks, Gail (Dig Alt)

It seems you are really getting to grips with the macro lens!

Its a very interesting effect! It seems to me like the fly is emerging from water, coming to life, almost like a metamorphosis before our eyes.

Very well done Gail!

Best Regards

I no sooner posted this image, and my supper was ready. As I sat there enjoying my meal, I began to think of how 'absurd' some might feel to have a composition with a 'fly' being rather creative and looking like a Painting. It certainly isn't something one would hang upon a wall!!!! But all the same, it is good to experiment with such images. In another capture it may not be a fly in a similar circumstance!!!

Sincere thanks for your visit and time taken to comment Ferdinand!!! ;-) Gail

You actually saw what I saw. Rather than have an less than perfect image of the fly where the background on the right was  over-exposed, I was able to take it to a 'different level' of composition. This I think would seem very silly to many, but I try to look at it as a learning experience. Images that I would otherwise perhaps just DELETE, are able to be used in different applications.

Many thanks for your visit Alf!!!

Hi Gail,

Anytime you use your Canon 100mm F/2.8 macro properly setup, it is technically fine.

From F/2.8 to F/5.6, this lens reveals as much as it was designed to do.

There will always be room for improvement in hand holding techniques, perspective used, point of focus selected, lighting, exposure, etc..

As for the image , it is a dramatic scene that expresses your high level of creativity well. .

All around, A+ my dear student.

Warmest Regards, Mike

Thank you very much Mike, I am a bit surprised. I am always picking an image apart. But I know this year I should do much better.

Sincere appreciation for your grading,

Your grateful student, Gail

Thanks very much David for taking the time to stop by and let me know what you thought about this composition. I found the layer worked well where the wings seem to disappear as they weren't as in good focus there.

Gail-

I think the texture made this a very interesting image.  I love that you are experimenting and trying new things.  That's what the evolution of digital photography and post processing is all about.  I shall keep looking for your terrific ideas and creativity.
