Hi Alf,

Well done my friend.

My first thought was that this image was an old time film shot.

The enlargement reveals finer details that often was not seen in older film images, especially when the lens were used at F/16 or F/22 to make the capture.

Your Sigma did very well at F/5.6.

Best Regards, Mike

The latest three images have absolute minimal processing. The only

changes I made from the RAW files was to the white balance to add

warmer tones to some of the images, and a very small amount of

sharpening to upload at optimum larger view. Your thoughts and

comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

When viewed larger, I was truly fascinated by the detail that I could see! More detail in the branches, the old stone fence, I think I actually see one or two sheep. Totally 'works' for me. ;-)

Many Thanks for your thoughts and observations, much appreciated!

I know on some retro looking images a "Sepia Tint" is used to imitate that nostalgic look. However it isn't the case here, though I did opt to alter the white balance to a slightly warmer tone.

I have found that the Sigma seems to work best at around F5.6, though I have had good results in landscapes even at F2.8 with it. I think a lot depends on the subject and the surroundings.

Cheers Mike!

It is probably the least misty or moody of the series, and consequently is probably my least favourite too. That being said I do like the tree shapes and the visible features. And of course it soes illustrate the ever changing misty conditions that prevailed. All three shots were taken within a few minutes of each other. The nostalgia "sentiment" was not contrived or intended, just a side effect of a warmer white balance

Cheers Jamie!

Thank you so much for your thoughts and kind words. "Softness" is something I'm becoming more aware and appreciative of as I progress.

You have picked up on the aspect of the image that I liked too. Despite the mist, there are certain things including the ones you have mentioned that are visible.  In addition there is an old boat that is laying upside down under the trees, just to the right of central to the image. Of course I have the distinct advantage of seeing the original RAW file that is about 210 times larger than the large view : - )

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Gail, much appreciated!

i think it's just a bit too zoomed in. it would look nicer to me if it covered two to four times the area. j

I was hoping that the fly fishermen would enter the scene in their little green boats, and really make the picture postcard, but it wasn't to be, not a single fisherman showed up!  However it is very gratifying to read that you consider it pretty!

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Well I like wider views myself and I have plenty of wide angle views, but not of this part of the lake as its far bank distance doesn't really allow it. The ones I have tried with a wide angle lens don't appear to be half as interesting.  Too much blank space, plain water and sky.

Cheers Jamie!

The softness of the image and tone color chosen really create a piece  of art from this composition,I think too that from many image saw with different camera the series d700,d800 is able to caught incredible images with clarity and details, but also for sure is the fact that photographer hand is necessary for something like this,my compliments.

In all honesty I didn't really expect to see a huge difference between the D700 and D800 results, but in terms of fine detail, it really has made a difference, also with the file sizes it does offer a great deal more flexibility in terms of cropping.

Alf, you did a great job in capturing the misty (and also slightly mysterious) atmosphere! During the last years I made a few efforts in capturing similar situations but never achieved satisfying results...

The color temperature fits pretty well - even though I would guess it was quite cold when you took the picture. ;-)

Best regards (and a big thanks for your kind words on my latest upload)

Many Thanks for your thoughts and encouraging comments.

It can be quite difficult to get the right mood, even when there is mist or fog present it doesn't always look as we would wish.

You are right it was a cool April morning, and there wasn't a great deal of colour at all.  The sun was trying to make an impression at the back of the trees but at this stage it was still below the horizon. I tweaked the colour balance in Lightroom, and it produced this kind of sepia tint that I liked.

Best Regards
