Mark, I like the close up approach as used here.  It does seem the eyes are not in sharp focus, but the lips and teeth are sharper.

Thanks, Jerry! I need to check the focus calibration for this lens. My D600 has an adjustment for that. When I made the photograph the focus target, I manually select and use only one, was on the inner corner of her left eye.
