Barred Owl (?) - Dead (NYC) - photo by Steve Mirsky

Steve Mirsky photographed this owl (we agree it looks like a Barred Owl) on 11 April 2013 in the underground #5 Lexington Avenue (IRT) train station at Pelham Parkway in the Bronx. The previous station is above ground - so we believe this owl came into the tunnel/station in order to hunt rats - and then met an untoward end either by getting hit by a train or consuming a rat laced with poisons...or some other explanation.
