I have never been a good judge of my own photographs. It does seem the p.nut community like different photos of mine to what I like. I am going to stick my neck out and say I like this. I often say to people, if you like something yourself, why submit it for critique. In this case, it is because this is something I haven't seen before. Is it good? You tell me.

Feedback very much appreciated.

I like it a good bit David. This is a hars technique to pull off and you have dome it beautifully. The model and her pose are wonderful and the tonal range is fantastic. The fact that you carried all the detail in her hair amazes me. Play on my friend.

As a photographer who I respect a great deal, I am glad you like this. I had a sneaky suspicion you might... but only might. It will be interesting to see if others like it as much. Thanks. It means a lot to me.

I'm not sure that I qualify for telling you wether its good ot not. But I do like it! The light to dark gradation to this extent is something I have never seen before on a portrait and the effect is surreal and compelling to view.  There is an almost alien like quality it that I find fascinating, the glasses and sleeve kind of brings it all back to earth.

Compliments & Best Regards

A very unusual and original treatment for a portrait. I can see (maybe) why you  "took the risk" as you say, to present something original and challenging. I guess that without this effect, the portrait would certainly not have the power this has. Congratulations.

Alf, I do believe that if someone 'likes' something, it is good. If they don't 'like' it then it is bad. I realise it is not as simple as this. However, I do consider you more than qualified to make a comment. This is a very simple shot. I thank you for taking the time and I am glad that you like it.

Daniel, Interestingly, I was going to post this portrait untreated. It was while editing another image for a different site (Instagram) that I 'discovered' this. I am glad that you have taken the time to comment. In truth, there was not a lot of 'risk.' I do get slated for a lot of the work that I post here. Thanks a lot.

Dear David,

This image caught my attention immediately and kept my attention. The concept is original and your execution is spectacular. The details are wonderful.. lighting on her face, glow around her chin, rims of her glasses etc...I love this photo! Great work!

I was hoping people would comment on this image. To be honest, I wasn't sure if people would like it or not. So far the comments are positive. It will be interesting to see if I get any negative feedback. Thanks a lot.

"it is hard to imagine any negative feedback."  The pun potential here is great.  This image, which looks like a negative, has been receiving nothing but positives.  For me, this image is more of an abstract than a portrait and should be critqued in that category.  If the tones are reversed the image looks like it could be an ad for eyeglasses.  For me, this image has average impact, but nothing that lifts it to the next level where excitement, meaning, inspiration and amazement reign.  David, I consider this image but a stepping stone on your path to a higher vision and an emerging visual vocabulary you will use with confidence when you figure out what you want to say artistically.  Good luck.

If an 'average' image motivates you to write so much, I would love to see what you write with a better than average image. In truth I am humbled that you did write so much. I will endeavour to have you write more on one of my images sometime in the future. Thanks a lot.

I have posted before that I feel the best manipulated images have a good underlying original. That is certainly the case here. Play and experimentation is the way we grow as artists. Keep playing!
