alfbailey 2 Posted March 29, 2013 I managed to escape from work for a few minutes to capture this scene with my P&S. The snow was coming down thick and fast.......not the clearest of images but I think it captured the mood? Your thoughts and comments are always welcome. Thank You. Link to comment
mike_palermiti 2 Posted March 29, 2013 Hi Alf,You have accomplished your mission well. The environment is recorded to a level that establishes the real life conditions that these animals survive in.For myself, no camera or lens setup would improve this scene captured beyond what you did here.Best Regards my friend, Mike Link to comment
tibig 0 Posted March 29, 2013 I like this a lot. It certainly manages to catch the mood. You should not excuse yourself in no way for using a P&S, what counts is the result.Regards, Tibi Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted March 29, 2013 You've captured the ambiance perfectly, but the important thing is that you escaped from work ;-)... Mike Link to comment
ryourth 0 Posted March 30, 2013 A wonderfull winter scene, should be hanging on my wall. Poor visibility, heavy snow falling, isolated place & the ponies grazing for dinner combine to create a pleasant winter scene, one to be enjoyed by all winter lovers.Very realistic.loved hiking in weather like this, so quiet & peaceful you hated for the day to end. Memories, memories Best Regards-Ross PS Are you sure you only took a few minutes, it appears to be no where near the business district. Link to comment
Saadsalem 74 Posted March 30, 2013 An intense winter mood ,with all the heads down ,clearly suggest the difficulty of finding food resources of those fine creatures. Link to comment

alfbailey 2 Posted March 31, 2013 Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words.I think you are right, such were the conditions that I don't think the phohtograph would have improved with my D800 with any of the lenses I have. In fact there might have been a small advantage in using the P&S in as much as the surface area of the lens is relatively small and much less likely to have a snow flake land on it and cause blotchy patches on the photograph. Best Regards Alf TIBI Many Thanks for the vote of confidence, much appreciated! They are just so convenient to carry, without it I simply wouldn't have got the image. Best Regards Alf MIKE M Standing in a freezing blizzard photographing horses, could mean I hate work or I love photography, but probably accurately indicates both : - )Glad the atmosphere was communicated to you!Cheers Mike! Alf ROSS We have had some very late snow this year, in fact the stuff that fell last week is still laying around in some places over 2 ft thick.I actually walked right up to the horses and took a few shots, the snow was even piled up on thier heads and mane! But they seemed to be most effective in clearing areas of grass to feed from with their hooves. From my work place, It takes me about 10 minutes to reach the fields that is home to these horses, we are situated on an Industrial complex which is just outside the town, although you would never guess industry is so close from this perspective and particularly in the snow.Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf SAAD Many Thanks for your observations and positive feedback. This particular storm lasted most of the day, but the horses were suprisingly well adept at clearing the snow to find food.Best Regards Alf PATSYMany Thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated! thadley 15 Posted April 1, 2013 A perfect semi circle of the main subject and a great mood. I echo Mike P's sentiments "For myself, no camera or lens setup would improve this scene captured beyond what you did here". Well done. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted April 1, 2013 Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback, much appreciated. I was quite fortunate that they were spread out in the semi circle manner that you describe, very often they are a lot closer together. Maybe the fact that they had to forage for thier food had something to do with it.Cheers Tony Alf Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 3 Posted April 2, 2013 More importantly to me is to have the ability to capture and convey a mood, a dream... You have done that here. Simply beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. :) Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted April 4, 2013 You definitely captured the mood! How many sugar cubes did you have to give them to get them to arrange themselves in a semi-circle, mimicking the shape of the tree line behind them? That arrangement is what makes the shot work for me. Nice reward for your few minutes away from work! Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted April 4, 2013 There is an ironclad law against taking pictures of the business ends of the business ends, but this one is just so pretty. I love it. best, j Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted April 4, 2013 Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words. Its really good to know the mood was communicated effectively, we ended up with about 2ft of snow, this was just the start of it.Best Regards Alf CHRISTAL After listening intently to the weather forcast I planted a series of carrots in a semi circle and just waited for the snow to arrive : - )Ahh yes a few stolen moments away from the endless grind............I really should steal a few more! Which reminds me...have you retired yet, I seem to remember you telling me you were thinking about it?Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback.Best Regards Alf JAMIE I guess it was just errm "Business is usual" for these guys : - )Glad you liked this one Jamie! alfbailey 2 Posted December 13, 2013 Many Thanks for your visit and thoughtful comments! This was a real P & S moment, I had my Samsung compact camera in my coat pocket and took the shot during a lunchtime break from work that coincided with blizzard like conditions.
