One day as I alighted from a jitney bus, a face seemed to recognize

me and call me to him and a friend. It was this man, Konstantin, who

happened to be standing exactly in front of the billboard featuring

these two boys. To impress his friend that he knew the American

photographer, Konstantin made it clear he wanted his photo taken,

and I was eager to take it, given his wonderful mien and the setting

too. Your ratings, critiques, and observations are invited and most

welcome. If you rate or critique harshly or very critically or wish to

make a remark, please submit a helpful and constructive comment;

please share your photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. Thanks! Enjoy! john

My initial thought was to qualify this subtle smile as a smirk until I read your mise en situation. It is indeed a smile,a sort of victorious one and a claim to some kind of pecking order which he has acquired by exhibiting this familiarity with the photographer which conveys him the previledge to insist to be taken in photo, an opportunity that most would line up  and wrestle to seize. And you saw right with the background smiles to create yet another winner.I will resist the temptation to push this one into my favorites;if I did,I would somewhere down the line end up with more of yours than my own in my folio.Excellent work!

Meilleures salutations-Laurent

Elsewhere there is a threat on 'street photography' which I started which talks about dangers as well as 'tips and tricks' for the fledgling as well as the more experienced 'street photographer'.

One point made is that one's manner on the street follows one around; I hadn't seen this guy for two or three years, yet he recognized me straightaway even when I didn't recognize him (at least at first) and also remembered I had treated him nicely, and immediately wanted me to memorialize his image.

I did for reasons that had as much to do with his wonderful visage and the background as any familiarity with him, but it proves a point I'm making elsewhere in a thread; that you never know when a subject you've treated well will suddenly appear again and 'make' a new photo or even in this case present himself in such a manner that you feel compelled to take a photo, even if it were worthless and later should be deleted.

Fortunately, the Photo Gods smiled that day, and this is a photo that no one would ever think of deleting, all taken at 1/5 of a second in waning light.

Best to you, Laurent, and thanks.

I've been in a 'street' related thead I started suggesting that my manner on the street is good enough that subject sometimes present themselves to me or  call my name out on the street.

Here both things occurred; and that no longer is surprising to me, though the city this was taken in has 4 million + inhabitants (officially, but it is agreed there are more, since those are 'registered inhabitants and not all are registered).

NO ONE in this city hears their name called out, but I do, and with some frequency, in part because I'm big, have conspicuous camera or cameras and have a good manner as well as spend time with street people.

Moreover, this was on the outskirts of the city; not in the center where I am more easily recognized.

Life can be grand on the street (but like a fickle mistress, it can turn on you also, from disregard if you are not careful).

Thanks!

Apologies for misspelling your name.

Gosh darn editing window was closed, or I'd quietly have fixed it under the comment without creating a new comment just to change your previously misspelled name in a comment reply above.

Best wishes and apologies.  I know your name (and its spelling) is very important to you.

I thought so from the moment he called my name out, and I dimly remembered seeing him from long ago.

I immediately wanted to take his photo, and just as promptly spotted the poster behind him and promptly decided to 'marry' the two.

The light was waning and this capture is 1/5 of a second, pretty wide open.

Go figure.

It required some work to be post-worthy, but it was worth it.

Thanks for the nice comment.

This photo was taken at your Metro, too.

Really!

Within 'spitting distance' of where I believe you live.

Figure that one out.

Thanks for the kind comment.
