kevin_kolosky 2 Posted February 26, 2001 well, what is your photo of? the sax, the shoes, the distracting tree on the right. I like the lean but I wish you would have gotten closer and used more of the sax. Kevin Link to comment
John G. 0 Posted February 27, 2001 Just my two cents, I like it technically, is that a twin lens reflex? it shows. I think that you really pulled it off, but I wouldn't get stuck on the compositional style. You are really missing a subject, although in this case you pulled it off because of the technical quality of the b&w modulation, because the pants and shoes speak themselves, and because a sax is very recognizable. In other words, you achieved the "twist". It reminds me of another shot, I saw last summer, in an ad for fishing gear, which was a person in waders, cropped about the same, but there was a big fish hanging down next to the legs. This had a subject, and the rest was periferal (SP). I would call your image, more "atmospheric". And I felt the atmosphere, and it made me feel good. Link to comment
corey_mcsween 0 Posted February 27, 2001 I like this photo much more than the average ratings. I don't understand what the photo is about, but it is very visually pleasing and unique. Keep exploring, whatever you do is your style. Link to comment
greg_petusky 0 Posted March 8, 2001 Mapplethorpe lives! But seriously. This is a very uncomfortable framing for me. It's nice light, broken up by trees, but is this neg overdeveloped maybe a little? I say stick around, shoot the heck out of jazz man, and see what you want to say about him. Burn film. Link to comment
tom_menegatos 0 Posted March 20, 2001 I like it a lot... Very contrasty too... A little soft but that's ok. Did you know it was crooked? just kidding :) Actually it says a lot to me. The crop at the instrument reminds me of the anonimity of most street musicians. How jazz and blues musicians no matter how talented and even if they have records still sometimes perform on the street. This is what I see. Musician on the street playing... Only thing missing is an open sax case with a few bills and a lot of coins. That would have made the shot great for me but I still find it pleasing. Link to comment
fototheque 0 Posted October 5, 2001 I am a big fan of this photo, I first saw it on John Harper's site, Well done! You are also to be commended on your taste in TLR cameras! Rules are made to be broken and TLRs are made to be used on an angle, More parallax in every box! Link to comment
