 I guess I do not understand.  I know that the cross is a symbol of the crucified Christ.  What is the image of a crucified woman supposed to represent?

Jerry, this is a beautiful and wonderful Christ. And Christ represents the great love.

A very well executed image of pronounced aesthetic appeal which should be judged on it's photographic qualities and those alone. What it represents to each of us, and to its author in particular, should not be questioned in the context of the presentation, outside of the the artwork, unless he chooses to bring it to the forefront. 

In Christian faith, God the father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, the latter being the giver of life.

Moreover, throughout history, women have been crucified by some of the more barbarous societies that preceded us (I have removed the link I posted initially not to offend any particular nation .. (just look up "women",  "crucified", on Google on your own)).
