Well, I think it is ancient although it is made maybe of concrete ( Romans used concrete a lot), but it looks to me like stone, there is a mystery from the start and I like mysteries!

Pozdrav veliki!

Many thanks!!!!!!

Pierre, this well is not from Roman times but it is an "ancient" - anyhow it is much older than me. It is made of the concrete but in an "old" way, meaning there is a lot of gravel (or rough sand) and some cement (in that times you couldn't buy it in nearest shopping mall). Also, from this kind of concrete and houses were made (still standing and you need a dynamite to take 'em down) so, actually, very solid concrete.  In this field ("Betinsko polje", otok Murter) most of the wells are at a ground level and this one is only one what I know that is made in this way. And, you must admitt, the pattina is fantastic. This picture was made at 2004 - should make a walk through the field to see if it is still standing (a progress take it's toll).

All the best!!!!
