frigo 4,155 Posted March 8, 2013 This is daily work for these miners that have to go down to the bottom of the IJEN volcano crater to extract some raw sulphur in a very toxic environment, then load up baskets with up to twice their weight, climb out of the crater and then travel down the outer face of the mount for kilometers to deliver the mineral at the waiting trucks. Most will complete this task twice a day.....on a route that I,without a load, came back from totally exhausted.Thank you for your comment-Laurent Link to comment

jorge_fernandez3 1 Posted March 8, 2013 This is a historical document showing people that as Sisiphus are pushing the rock with the only purpose of life itself and becoming stronger. Warm regards my friend. Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted March 9, 2013 Thank you kindly. This matter of the IJEN miners is known and well documented and has been the subject of TV documentary which I saw many years after my return from Indonesia.I discovered this late in my stay in that beautiful country and I would have loved to return as the day I was there,it was totally foggy and I could not get a clear view on the splendid emerald lake at the bottom of the crater;I did however had an opportunity to touch some of the runoff water in a brook at the foot of the volcano mount to find it extremely corrosive and further appreciate the extreme conditions under which these workers perform their hard labour.See the other photo in this folder of one of these miners with sulphur burn scars on his shoulders.Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted March 9, 2013 Thank you so much.Wish I could attach a few more shots of this delicate and strenuous work but I am unable to do as you so skillfully do in tagging multishots on some of your posts.Failing this,I'll invite you to view,if you have time, the other few shots I have uploaded in my Recents on this subject of courageous men.Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
