Spoonbill

Shot this handheld at our local zoo today. Perfect weather, sunny

and 60 degrees. I was a little concerned about loss of contrast

because I had to shoot through a fence but my 600mm f/4 AIS

beast seemed to handle it pretty well at f/ 5.6

I think this is beautiful.  Whether by accident or not, the coloring is so delicate and warm, even that small spot of orange behind the bird's head.  In terms of its coloring it looks kind of like an Old Masters painting.  The angle of the bird's head, the diagonal swoop of its bill and the sharp eye, delineated in that dark red, all make for a very fine image.
