As per a suggestion by Tony Hadley, (reduce contrast) I edited

again, reducing Curves, Brightness and Contrast. I think it does look

better (Thankyou Tony). I did not notice how dark it looked when I

first posted last evening. I hope this version of the Previous Image is

better received. (My sincere thanks for your visits and suggestion,

Gail)

Hi Gail,

The B&W presentation is well fitting for this scene.

The contrast in the bird and the sleeve, along with the background work well together.

At close range  , the use of the flash can lead to some highlight difficulties, but you managed that well. Often, the use of a diffuser or filter over the flash can help , or adjusting the power output of the flash unit itself works , too.

The clarity is well seen at F/5.6, too.

Fine work my dear friend.

Warmest Regards, Mike

Hello Gail.

Its better with a bird in the hand than ten on the roof.

Very nice shot under demanding circumstance.  I also like the motionblur of the wings. My compliments.

Kind regards

Great capture of the friendly chikadee and great timing to get the wing flap.At feed time, some will come and take the sunflower seeds from your hand;I must try to get a shot and see if I can produce something approaching this excellent image.Good work and super in B&W .

Very good image Gail. I like... the hand, the bird (including the blurry parts), the in focus forground (good use of DOF), the comp, and your B&W conversion.

This is a great shot but also a problematic one due to the strong contrasts within the picture. It will always attract interest because of the attractiveness of the subject matter. As an arrangement of tones and shapes, I think you would have to spend a great deal of time in PS to balance the sharp contrasts. It would be a real challenge.

You are probably right Jack. When I printed it for Shaelyn in colour it doesn't look too bad. The memory of the 'moment' for her was most important, and I saw all the challenges of trying to correct. I finally decided not to fool around too much with it. It was taken on an overcast day, and only had the onboard flash to prevent shadows. I experimented with different crops but it mean cutting her had off at different spots. So I decided to keep it the way it was. Many thanks for offering your thoughts though.

Sincere thanks and regards, Gail

I am sure you just might be able to have a Chickadee land in your hand, if they are used to visiting your Bird Feeder. I wish you the best of luck!!

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for your critique.

I should have thought to bring along even some scotchtape to

put over the 'onboard flash'. I now have an external flash that I hope would work a lot better.

Always learn something when you drop by.

Warmest regards, Gail
