Pelican Grooming

I've tried this shot a couple of times and finally got the pelican

in clear focus with the ship in the background blurred.

I'm not sure whatever happened to the rule that you couldn't give a low rating without making a comment. I LIKE this shot. I like the shallow depth of field. You must have fun waiting for the right capture!

Hugh, it's the US Lexington that they have turned into a museum in Corpus Christi, TX. I had wanted to get the pelican (sharp) in the foreground with the Lex in enough detail to make it out, but not so much as to take away from the bird. I actually went back a second time to try and get the right DOF to do this.

I was right. It is the U.S.S. Lexington. Got a chance to tour it with the boy scout troop a few years ago. I think this is a great shot. . . nicely composed. . .great dof . .

Donna, I finally toured it this year, after living in the area for over 7 years! I want to get a night shot of the Lex sometime. They have the blue lights on it and it looks spooky -the "Blue Ghost" they call it.
