biskamp 1 Posted February 12, 2013 By a fortunate coincidence I found the two horse girls in front of this famous waterfall. What I really like is the structure of the falling water, which becomes particularly clear in this b&w version of the photo Link to comment
JeffBryce 0 Posted February 12, 2013 I remember seeing the un-cropped version of this a while ago and I remember that it was excellent and superior to the color version. I think the un-cropped version of this is much better because it provides a greater sense of scale, a better composition, and more information. In this cropped version the water appears frozen and it's difficult to understand what is going on. Link to comment
umbush 0 Posted February 13, 2013 I love the way the water looks. As if its been sculptured. Kind regards Link to comment
biskamp 1 Posted February 13, 2013 Fhanks for your comments.Jeff, I thought that the cropped picture makes the scene a bit more mysterious, since the water flows just as a curtain, whose origine is nor obvious. The general question in representing flowing water is whether to take it sharp exhibiting all the structures but in a sense freezing it, or to soften it, which in the extreme case makes it look like a veil. I usually prefer the softened picture, particularly when the water is surrounded by sharp rigid structures, but in this case the horses would not have waited for me to put up my tripod. In addition in this case I do like the structures of the falling water Link to comment
alphawhiskeyphotography 0 Posted February 13, 2013 Terrific shot. Really gives a sense of scale and danger of this mighty waterfall, and you've rightly acknowledged that colour is unnecessary here. Far more powerful as B+W. I have a similar B+W image of Skogarfoss but a long exposure with a guy looking up at it.http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=16790920 Regards,AW. Link to comment
