Rugged coast of Ireland accompanied by stormy weather... Long exposure

of 331s for some motion and mood at dusk...Thank you for your critiques

and opinions...

I like the shape of the rock in the foreground, its texture and detail. The length of exposure is nicely timed and the foreground well exposed. I do think your choice of filter was perhaps a little heavy. Sometimes a very dark sky works well for dramatic effect, but here it just looks unnatural. I think as the grad was a hard edged one, the line of demarcation is just a little too harsh, a soft edged one may have blended better. All that is needed, in my opinion, would be to lighten the sky a little to bring it closer to the exposure range of the foreground. It may be possible to keep the texture of the clouds using another setting, I use Lightroom and the highlight slider, used in moderation, often helps pull detail without darkening too much. Thanks for sharing this.

A very good long exposure seascape, Slavomir. I'll be honest. While I had a similar comment like Scott on my mind with a few of your other shots, where mountains were darkened a bit too much for my taste, I believe that here the dark sky works well with the lighter foreground. The sky adds much to the mood of the image and I like the indigo tones in the sky. The loss of definition in the sky here is more the result of the long exposure than underexposure from the ND grad. It would be possible to blend a sky from a shorter exposure, but I am not sure whether the result would be better. You did a good job taking this. Best regards. Peter
